Best Practice of Teaching and Learning in New Media
REFLECTION 1 : What is new media?
During my first class, I do not know what is the new media. In my mind, new media is all about technology. Then, I do some revision on it. So, from my reading I understand that new media is used to describe content made available using different forms of electronic communication made possible through the use of computer technology. Generally, the phrase new media describes content available on-demand through the Internet. This content can be viewed on any device and provides way for people to interact with the content in real-time with the inclusion of user comments and making it easy for people to share the content online and in social with friends and co-workers.
Here, I list some of the examples of the new media...:)
Examples of New Media
-
websites and blogs
-
streaming audio and video
-
chat rooms
-
email
-
online communities
-
social media and sharing platforms
-
mobile apps
-
Web advertising
-
DVD and CD-ROM media
REFLECTION 2: Sosial Media
Assalamualaikum..this is my second reflection regarding on my study. I would like to share with you about sosial media in education setting. Actually, what is a sosial media?........
Based on my lecture, social media is the collective of online communications channels dedicated to community-based input, interaction, content-sharing and collaboration. Websites and applications dedicated to forums, microblogging, social networking , social bookmarking, social curation, and wikis are among the different types of social media. All of thisonline communications channels were used in order to enhance the process of teaching and learning.
Here are some prominent examples of social media:
-
Facebook is a popular free social networking website that allows registered users to create profiles, upload photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues. According to statistics from the Nielsen Group, Internet users within the United States spend more time on Facebook than any other website.
-
Twitter is a free microblogging service that allows registered members to broadcast short posts called tweets. Twitter members can broadcast tweets and follow other users' tweets by using multiple platforms and devices.
-
Google+ (pronounced Google plus) is Google's social networking project, designed to replicate the way people interact offline more closely than is the case in other social networking services. The project’s slogan is “Real-life sharing rethought for the web.”
-
Wikipedia is a free, open content online encyclopedia created through the collaborative effort of a community of users known as Wikipedians. Anyone registered on the site can create an article for publication; registration is not required to edit articles. Wikipedia was founded in January of 2001.
-
LinkedIn is a social networking site designed specifically for the business community. The goal of the site is to allow registered members to establish and document networks of people they know and trust professionally.
All of these sosial media should be used properly in order to achieve the successfull of goals in process of teaching and learning in education world....Although I have not in education setting yet, but by taking this subject can help me in knowing all about these..I'm so happy have opportunity like this..:)
REFLECTION 3 :
Assalamualaikum....
Today, I would like to share with you regarding my presentation with my friend. My Lecturer ask us to prepare a presentation regarding on media sosial for teaching and learning process.
In my presentation, we choose using Pinterest for Education. Pinterest is a social network which allow students to share and comment on visual material, which could be photographs, sketches, videos or web pages. Like a virtual scrapbook, but very public, student can collate the items that they love. There is no copyright in the world of Pinterest: student can attach images from other people’s web pages, or repin content from other people’s boards.
Pinterest can also be a great tool for use in education. It is great for organising vast quantities of information and brainstorming ideas. The visual nature of Pinterest makes it particularly suited to engaging students. Students can use it to:
-
Compile content, including educational video
-
Organise and store ideas
-
Connect and comment on students’ work
-
Make connections with other teachers and get ideas for future projects
-
Create group projects: community boards can be perfect for collaborative projects
Actually, this is my first time listen about pinterest. However by sharing moment with my friend help me to know a little bit about pinterest. I hope from that sharing my others friends in class also can get a little bit about pinterest.. Thanks you.. :)
REFLECTION 4 : Online Blended Learning
This is my forth reflection. In this week, I have study about blended learning. My lecturer asks us what we understand about blended learning. At first, I have no point about it. Then, my lecturer give us a time for discussion among us. During the discussion, beside discuss with my friend, I also try to search in internet to get a clear picture about it.
From the discussion and the searching, I can say that blended learning is the way of e-learning is being combined with traditional classroom methods and independent study to create a new, hybrid teaching methodology. It represents a much greater change in basic technique than simply adding computers to classrooms; it represents, in many cases, a fundamental change in the way teachers and students approach the learning experience.
Let see the difference between blended and not blended learning for more understanding.
REFLECTION 5 : Engagement Student
This week, my lecture is about how to engage the students in learning process. Student engagement also refers to a “student’s willingness, need, desire and compulsion to participate in, and be successful in, the learning process.” Student engagement is important in learning process.
How to know students are engage or not in learning process? Here is some of the indicators
Students who are engaged show sustained behavioral involvement in learning activities accompanied by a positive emotional tone. They select tasks at the border of their competencies, initiate action when given the opportunity, and exert intense effort and concentration in the implementation of learning tasks; they show generally positive emotions during ongoing action, including enthusiasm, optimism, curiosity, and interest.”
There are another five indicators for student engagement in college. They include:
-
the level of academic challenge
-
active and collaborative learning
-
student-faculty interaction
-
enriching education experiences and
-
a supportive learning environment.
